After a long bout with Mac Envy, and the more recent Vista anticipation, I decided to jazz things up a bit. The first thing I wanted was a better command line interface. Mainly I wanted something with transparency. After lots of searching I found nothing, but I did find Actual Transparent Window which can make any window transparent. It's very nice because it adds a button to all the windows so you can change the transparency level on the fly. You can also set it to make windows transparent when moving, or other actions. It runs very smoothly.
The only problem is that it doesn't work on a Windows Command Prompt. So then I found Prompt Pal. Not only does it allow you to use transparency, but it has other cool features like tabbed windows, and session saving.
Next I wanted widgets. I had used the Google Desktop widgets, but every time I installed the darn thing it bogged down my PC. And it wasn't just cause it was indexing. So I stumbled upon Yahoo Widgets. They've got a buttload of widgets. So far my favorites are Fileaway which gives you a neat way to quickly file away files, and then sort through them later, Memory Gauge, CPU Portal, Battery Meter, WiFi Signal, and Digital Clock. One of the coolest features is the floating. If you set a widget to float, it stays on top of other windows, but you can click through it.
Of course the next step was window treatments. StyleXP is nothing new, but it's still badass. The latest version comes installed with a Jaguar theme by default.
As much as I hate to say it, I like Windows, and I think deep down most of you do too. If you look hard enough you can satiate some of those superficial things that lead you astray.
